This page explains how House Tweaks makes money, in plain language and without the small print.
The short version
House Tweaks participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
That means: if you click certain links on this site and buy something, we may receive a small commission. You pay nothing extra. The price is exactly the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.
Where things stand right now
House Tweaks is a new site and is still building out its library of guides and reviews.
At the time this page was written, our published articles did not contain any affiliate links at all. We are telling you this rather than implying a commercial arrangement we do not yet have. This page describes how we will handle affiliate links as they start to appear in our content.
How this affects what we recommend
It does not.
We understand exactly why you should be skeptical here — a site that earns money when you buy something has an obvious reason to tell you to buy something. So here is what we commit to:
- Commission rates never decide our recommendations. We do not rank products by what pays best, and we do not quietly steer you toward the higher-paying option.
- We will tell you when the answer is “don’t buy it.” Sometimes the right advice is to keep what you have, buy nothing, or spend less than you were planning to. That advice earns us nothing, and we will still give it.
- We name drawbacks on products we could earn from. If something has a real flaw, the flaw goes in the article.
- A free or DIY solution beats a paid one when it actually does. If you can fix it with something already in your house, we would rather tell you that.
If we ever fail to live up to this, we want to hear about it. Our Editorial Policy sets out the standards in full, and our Contact page is the fastest way to challenge us on any of it.
How we mark affiliate links
When our articles do include affiliate links, we will not hide them. Where you see a link to a product on a retailer’s site, you should assume it may be an affiliate link unless stated otherwise, and articles containing them will carry a visible disclosure.
You are never required to use our links. If you would rather not, simply search for the product directly at any retailer — the advice in the article is the same either way, and it is yours to use however you like.
What happens when you click
When you click through to a retailer such as Amazon, you leave House Tweaks and land on their site. From that point:
- The retailer — not us — handles your purchase, your payment details, your delivery and your returns.
- The retailer may set cookies to record that you arrived from our site. That is the mechanism that credits us with the referral.
- Their privacy policy and terms apply to what happens on their site, not ours.
We never see your payment details, your card, or your address. We do not have access to your order. If something goes wrong with a purchase, the retailer is who you need to deal with — though we would still like to know if a product we recommended let you down.
Prices and availability
Prices, availability and specifications change constantly, and retailers update them without telling us. Any price or availability detail mentioned in an article is what we saw at the time of writing and may be out of date by the time you read it.
Always check the current price and details on the retailer’s own page before you buy. The retailer’s listing is the authority, not our article.
